Where is the best land for a solar plant in Syria?
A suitability map at about 250 m combining solar irradiation, slope and distance to the nearest of 109 power plants and substations, excluding cropland, built-up land, water, forests and heritage surroundings — with the area of each class per sub-district and the top 50 contiguous sites of one square kilometre or more.
In short
1,345 km² excellent and 8,391 km² good suitability.
Irradiation in Syria ranges from 4.95 to 5.73 kWh/m²/day.
Sub-districts with most excellent land are in the table.
Who it is for
Investors and solar developers, engineers doing pre-feasibility studies, and electrical engineering and planning students.
Method: what we add to the raw data
- Three criteria with stated weights: global horizontal irradiation 40% (relative between the lowest and highest values in Syria), slope 25% (best up to 3%), and grid distance 35% (best nearest, zero beyond 30 km).
- Cropland, built-up, water, wetland and trees, slopes above 10%, and a 1 km buffer around heritage sites were excluded.
- The 0–100 score was grouped into: excellent 80+, good 65–80, moderate 50–65, low under 50.
- Contiguous excellent and good patches of 1 km² or more were extracted and ranked by score then area, with the nearest station and distance.

Limitations
- Irradiation is high across all of Syria by world standards; the score ranks sites within Syria, so "low" means relatively less suitable, not unsuitable.
- Irradiation comes from a 1° climatological grid, linearly interpolated; differences across Syria are small, but local detail (mountain shading) is not represented.
- The grid is known stations as of about 2015, not today's transmission lines and spare capacity.
- Land ownership, legal status and road access are not modelled; field study is required before any decision.
FAQ
- How long does delivery take?
- Up to 6 hours after payment is confirmed.
- How long does the download link last?
- 24 hours, and it is renewed free on request.
- Can I get a refund?
- Digital products are not refundable once downloaded — unless the file is defective or does not match the description, in which case it is replaced or fully refunded.
- What does the licence allow?
- Commercial use is allowed for you and the organisation you buy for; resale or redistribution is not.
