Answers the farmer's and the official's question: how much worse is this season than normal, and where?
The spring greenness peak (March to mid-May) for each of 26 seasons against the median of all seasons, for every delegation with land that greens (264), with the latest season's rank and grade, plus anomaly cells.
In short
The 2026 season is 12.3% above normal nationally.
The worst season in the series was 2002 at -27.2% against normal.
In the latest season 0 delegations graded very poor and 2 poor.
Who it is for
The agriculture ministry and regional offices, food-security organisations, agricultural insurers and researchers.
Method: what we add to the raw data
- The season peak, not its mean: the highest vegetation-index value among the composites from March to mid-May, because the peak is what reflects the harvest.
- Comparison is against the median of all seasons in the same delegation, not against one season or another delegation.
- Cells that never green (median below 0.15) are excluded, so desert does not distort the percentage.
- The latest season's rank among all seasons was added, showing whether it is the worst.
- The grade has five levels from "very poor" to "very good" with explicit thresholds documented in the guide.

Limitations
- The index measures greenness, not yield: irrigation, crop type and fertiliser change the relationship.
- A 500 m cell mixes small farms with their surroundings.
- 1 delegations have no meaningful greening land, so their fields are empty.
- The latest season may be incomplete if its composites are not yet all present in the source.
- Evergreen trees such as olives dampen the apparent anomaly in their areas, so it does not reflect cereals alone.
