Method: what we add to the raw data

The layer was converted from an interactive service into a downloadable, analysable layer with ordered fields.
The mined product was translated into Arabic alongside the French original.
Dates were converted from their raw numeric storage (milliseconds) into readable dates.
Each concession and plant was attributed to its governorate, delegation and sector.
Results were aggregated by product and by governorate: count, area and most common product.

Limitations

Concessions are points with a centre coordinate and a numeric area, not polygon boundaries; the source does not publish boundaries.
The expiry date is as recorded and some have passed; this does not mean the concession is still valid.
The product is translated from free text; where no equivalent was found the Arabic field is empty.
Exploration permits are not included; these are exploitation concessions only.
Processing plants are six main sites, not every chemical industry facility.
